My posting this info bleg relates to a post over at Walls of the City about Gabe Suarez, which had some thread drift into the actual value of the training Gabe Suarez offers. Having explained the context of this bleg post, I ask anyone who might stumble upon this post a question about another ubiquitous firearms trainer:
Is the training at Ignatius Piazza’s Front Sight Firearms Training Institute worthwhile?
His current “Patriot Lifetime Membership” offer allows such members to attend both two-day and four-day courses on defensive handgun use, tactical shotgun use and practical rifle use as often as the member desires, at a cost of $700 up-front (fools who pay by “easy monthly payments” will end up paying as much as $1,800 for the privilege of borrowing money to become a “Patriot Lifetime Member” at Front Sight). This sounds like a bargain, at least until one factors in the lodging cost of attending each class. Front Sight’s current lifetime membership drive sweetens the pot by including a 9mm FMK pistol, with customized engraving pertaining to Front Sight, for anyone who purchases two “Patriot Lifetime Memberships” at a total cost of $1,200 (any of which, according to the Front Sight Web site, can be transferred to someone else without penalty to the purchaser). According to the most recent e-mail I received from Front Sight, lifetime members will also soon receive 20 additional lifetime memberships, to be transferred to other people as the paid lifetime member so desires.
So, all that being said, is the training Front Sight provides worth $700, plus lodging costs at their fairly-remote site?
